Re: back taxes and getting married

The IRS is notorious for attempting to tie spouses into each other's tax debts. If this occurs, your wife will be able to claim that she is an "innocent injured spouse," and will be relieved of any liability.

In your case, the tax situation is preexisting (i.e., the liability occurred before marriage), so this should NOT be an issue.

Your best bet would be to take care of the tax issue immediately, since it certainly will not go away on its own, and the longer you wait, the more you are going to owe in penalties and interest. Don't worry - there are many people in your situation.

Our office concentrates in representing individuals and businesses in tax-related matters such as yours. Even though you are in Missouri, we are able to represent you with the IRS and put this matter to rest.
