Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Nebraska

landlord harrassment

I have a landlord who is makiing false accusations about my family and the living conditions, the call constantly for nothing, make appointments to inspect the house and never show and today my wife observed them driving around taking photos of the house when they thought we were gone. This landlord has been unbearable since the month after we moved in, but we like the house. My question is, is there anything we can do to make the landlord back off and quit harrassing us.

Re: landlord harrassment

It depends, you will probably need a lawyer to evaluate your claim. The house comes with the landlord, unless he is willing to sell it to you, there is no way to separate them. You have told your side of the story and I am sure he has a story to tell also. You do have a right to what is known as "quiet enjoyment" of the house as long as you comply with the terms of the lease and pay your rent on time. If you file an action against the landlord to enforce that right, it will probably cost you a considerable amount of money and it may cause the landlord to look for excuses to get rid of you and your family as tenants. If he does, it may cost you even more money to defend against his actions. In any case, taking your landlord to court is not likely to improve your relationship. The likelihood of your success will depend on what evidence you are able to provide and what evidence your landlord provides. Your attorney is likely to require a substantial amount of money from you in advance to begin proceedings. You will have to decide whether or not it is that important to you and whether it may be cheaper and smarter to just move when your lease is up.
