Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Nebraska
Sexual Harassment in a small business
My wife is being severely sexually harassed at her place of employment. My understanding is that the NEOC / EEOC only take complaints regarding companies that employ 15 or more. My wife's company only employs 5 people (individually owned service company). Her employer (he is the owner) views internet porn on his computer, my wife will get up and close his office door - only to have him reopen the door (his monitor is within view of my wife). He purchases Penthouse Magazine on a monthly basis and has called my wife into his office on 4 different occasions just to show her the centerfold (while telling her how much he likes those positions). On the 1st occasion, she informed him that she is not interested in anything like that. Approx. a week later, he called my wife into his office and HE closed the door behind her, dropped his pants, exposing himself, and explained to her that she better 'get with the program' in order to keep her job. She forced her way out of the office. Must we obtain a private lawyer?

Re: Sexual Harassment in a small business
There are municipal statutes that might apply to businesses with fewer than 15 employees. In Lincoln, for example, if there are 4 or more employees, the City of Lincoln statutes apply and you can maintain an action for sexual harrassment in court.
IN addition, there are common law causes of action that you can use to hold this man accountable for his actions.
