Legal Question in Traffic Law in Nebraska

Yellow light accident

So I went up to a stoplight. Stopped and pulled out while the light was green. Then when the light turned yellow I was still observing traffic. When the yellow light was about to turn red I saw a car approaching that looked like it was far enough where it could have stopped. So I started to turn and the car didn't stop but sped up to hit me. Am I to blame?

Re: Yellow light accident

It would be difficult to say, since I wasn't there. By your description though, it sounds as though you didn't yield the right of way to the oncoming traffic. Other car probably wasn't speeding up to hit you, but rather to get through the intersection before the light turned red. Other car had no obligation to stop to allow you to turn in front of him. You did have an obligation not to turn until you could do so safely without relying on other drivers to avoid you.
