if my home is in forclosure does bankruptcy slow down the process

Yes, bankruptcy gives rise to an "automatic stay", stopping a foreclosure (but not necessarily an eviction after a foreclosure). The mortgage company can ask the bankruptcy court to permit the eviction to continue for cause. Your attorney can explain further.
