Re: Emancipation petition

If you are close to turning 18 years of age, I wouldn't worry about it. You will become a fully emancipated adult at age 18 by operation of law, and it will take a few weeks if not months to get you emancipated by court order.

Parents have a legal duty to care for their children. I can appreciate the conflict and flux in your life is a bit intolerable right now, but you might want to remind them that if they cannot support and care for you that you have the right to call social services and ask for state intervention into your familial situation. Social services have a variety of assistance programs to help families in conflict such as yours.

If you are some time off from turning 18 years of age, then you may want to consult with an attorney regarding your emancipation options.

Feel free to contact my office for a consult if you so desire.
