For starters, you should take advantage of the free class on guardianship offered at the Boyd School of Law (UNLV). This free class is on Fridays between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. through June 1st. You need not register in advance, walk-ins are welcome. After you have taken this class, you'll have a better idea as to whether you may want to hire an attorney to assist you through the process. For more details, visit http://law.unlv.edu/free-legal-education.html.

You need to hire an attorney because once a guardianship is established, you know have the burden to show that there is a material change of circumstances in your children's lives and a change of custody back to you will substantially enhance their welfare. It is not enough to say that you are out of rehab and you are ready.

If you want to hire me for legal work, my email is [email protected].
