Take a Look at the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Specifically Rul 56. and Rule 5. Search on any search engine for Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

There may be other FRCP and other rules that apply and effect deadlines, etc. You will also want to look at the local rules for the Court
