Call your attorney, and let him know that you are not satisfied with his/her services. Be specific. Then, ask for your file, pay the amount owed to the attorney (sometimes its for costs, other times for work already performed), and find new counsel. Make sure that you find new counsel before you decide to fire your attorney- there may be critical deadlines in your case that you do not want to miss.

Generally, you would be able to fire your attorney any time you wanted. I'd call them and also send a letter.

If you still have a case, be careful because your old attorney may have a lien on the file (meaning the old attorney you fired is still entitled to money, or in some circumstances to hold onto your file). This sometimes makes it harder to retain a new attorney.

If you would like an informal meeting about your case and why you aren't happy with your present attorney, please call me.
