Legal Question in Technology Law in New Hampshire

I bought a domain name and now the previous owner wants it back

I purchsed a domain name. A month after the purchase I recieved a e-mail from a European lawyer threatening legal action. I responded to find out what was going on. They said the first letter was a mistake and they wanted to be reasonable. They have made me an offer for the domain name based on a lie (I know I checked). What I want to know since I have every intention of using this domain name can they get it from me? And if I reject the offer can they get me for any sort of damages?
