Collection Agency Contacting Place of Employment

Can a Debt Collection Agency (legally) contact my place of employment to reach me, when doing so may jeopardize said employment.

They can except if they know or have reason to know that your employer prohibits you from receiving such communications. The best thing to do is to notify the the debt collector in writing that you either won't pay the bill or that you want them to stop. They legally have to cease contact except to advise you that further efforts will be terminated or to notify you of specific remedies they may invoke.
