Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Hampshire

Can a bench warrent kill you?

Yesterday my boyfriend was arrested due to the fact that he had 2 electronic bench warrents. The first bench warrent was for him not showing up to court to pay a measly $40 for smashing a mail box with a baseball bat back in '06. The second was for not showing up to court for his second offence of driving a vehicle under a suspended license. His bail all together is $1044. There was no way I could come up with that so they are holding him in jail untill tuesday when he goes to court. My boyfriend has never been in any seriose trouble. He has one count of criminal threat on his record from 2 years ago that has been settled, and the mail boxes. What I want to know is what are the possibilitys that could happen when he goes to court tuesday? Are they going to keep him in jail? Is this something that seriose?

Re: Can a bench warrent kill you?

A bench warrant cannot kill you.

While your boyfriend's offenses may be minor compared to the crimes being committed elsewhere, not showing up for court is what has put him in this situation. On at least two occassions, the court has released him on his promise to either pay money or appear in court... he has not done that. On tuesday, the judge will have to decide whetehr your boyfriend can be TRUSTED to appear in court if he is released (since he never showed up as required for the 2006 case and blew off paying a measly $40, and since he never went to court for the operating on a suspended license). The judge will hear his reasons for skipping out on the other two cases and make a decision.
