Legal Question in Family Law in New Hampshire

child custody

My son was born in NH and has been living in Mass for about a month or so and my girlfriend decided to just up and leave me. My son is like 3 hours or more from where we lived together.

Re: child custody

I practice in MA and NH so feel free to call with questions. Still more information is needed.

If the child lives in MA for more than 6 months, she will likely be able to get jurisdiction in Massachusetts and file an action for support, custody, and visitation. You could file an action to initiate support and visitation in a NH court- which I would recommend- however, you need to consult with an attorney to fully assess what is in your best interest and that of the child before doing so. The court would likely set a visitation schedule, set an amount of support for the noncustodial parent, and determine who is to transport the child for visitation.
