probate and credit cards

My father just passed away without a will and no assets except his bank account for 3000 dollars.Hes got over 10000 dollars in credit card bills and he had unknowningly put my name on them. No they want me to pay all the bill. Should I pay for something I didnt know or use. Thank you

Payment of these bills should be made from your father's estate and nothing else. Unless the credit card company can show that you were a party to a contract, or used the credit cards, they cannot sue you - if they do, you have a defense and can seek attorney's fees for filing a fraudulent claim. Beware that they may try to list this on your credit report as an "authorized user" and then show the account to be in default.
