Car Reposession in New Jersey

Mt car company reposessed my car in New Jersey. about over a year ago. NOw they sued me for the balance. They said they will garnish my pay if i am not wiling to pay. They sold me a bad car. Car worth may be 400 at that time they sold it for over 15k. From the very first day i am having trouble with the car. NOw they are asking 12,000. I am living in Missouri now. I was unemployed for 9 months, I have no money what so ever. Can they do pay garnishment?

If they get a judgment, yes, they can garnish you. Depending on the language of the agreement, and on NJ law, however, you may have defenses to the collection action, including consumer fraud. You need to speak to an attorney. If you do not have money to hire an attorney, call Legal Aid of Eastern Missouri in St. Louis and speak to them. You can also call the legal clinics at either St. Louis University or Washington University to see if they can assist you.
