Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New Jersey

Getting bankruptcy off credit record

i filled for chapter 7 in april 1993 due to a divorce. one half interest in a house and several credit cards were abandoned. i did keep one credit card that i use from time to time and still have, but no monthly balance is carried, and purchased a new car in late 1997. credit for this car was extended due to an error of the business manager at the dealership. this car is paid off. what do i have to do to remove this bankruptcy from my record without incurring an additional legal bill? thank you.

Re: Getting bankruptcy off credit record

Bankruptcies can stay on your credit report for up to 10 years. Simply wait until the 10th year passes and order credit reports from the big 3 credit reporting agencies. If the bankruptcy is still reported, follow their dispute procedures and dispute the reporting.
