Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

I got paid after I quit!

I quit my job at a multi-billion dollar corporation about six weeks ago, and I recently received a direct deposit payment from my former employer. I also noticed that I am enrolled in their health insurance plan. I had not even signed up for benefits when I was working there.

Am I obligated to inform them of their errors and/or to return the money?

Re: I got paid after I quit!

To Mr. Begley's answer, I will add that it is a potential problem for you to be "covered" by an insurance policy to which you are not entitled. Far from being a blessing, it could turn out to be a curse. If you do not get other insurance and have an expensive claim, it will become obvious that you are not entitled to the insurance and difficult to convince anyone that you did not know that. In that case, the insurance company will deny coverage and you will be left to pay on your own. If you have other coverage, you are not likely to get any more benefits however, the insurers may wind up in a coverage dispute that leaves half of your bills unpaid until the dispute is resolved. The insurers benefit by the time value of money, but you and your medical providers lose.

I would not say you are obligated to tell them, but if you are not entitled to anything, and you accept it, you may be required to reimburse for it later, billion-dollar company or not.
