Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey

Decorative painter placing lien

I am a free lance artist.. I completed a handpainted mural for a private residence and after completion the owner refused to pay... Stating that it took to long. She hired another artist without my knowledge an prior to my billing her.. Can I place a mechanics lien on her home for the amount owed? $1500.00?

Decorative painter placing lien

Yes.

The revised statute terms them "construction liens" and is much more favorable to contractors and subcontractors than the old statute (which required pre-contract notice.)

I could provide the forms, but you would save the fee by getting them directly from the County.

Just be sure to release the lien after you are paid to avoid any problems with slander of title.
