what is the statue of limitations for contractors insurance co. to pay claim on hidden defects

You are asking the wrong question. Construction disputes are subject to a 6 year statute of limitations. Most insurance policies cover a period of time. If you have a claim, just make it, and let the contractor worry about the coverage. You don't even know if he has coverage based on the type of occurance, or if there is an exemption.
