Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

My gym amended my original contract without my consent. I realized this only I saw new charges a year into my contract on my credit card statement. I called to dispute them, but they would not back down. I have my original carbon copy and saw their "original scanned copy" and there were new items not listed on my original carbon copy. Can they legally make an amendment and force me to abide by the new contents? According to the contract, I am not allowed to leave the contract until it runs out, otherwise I would quit paying them monthly dues.

generally, a contract connot be amended without the consent of both parties. i would, however need to see both the original and "new" contract the gym created to provide proper and valid advise. Without seeing these, I cannot truly answer the question.
