Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

do collection agencies report to CRAs for $50

I received a collection notice in the amount of $50 from a Merchant for a charge I disputed to Credit Card company as unauthorized charge because i did not make any purchase or receive service for that specific transaction. CreditCard company successfully disputed the amount but merchant sent me collection notice. What do you suggest? Should I just pay this to keep them off my back and to avoid any possible bad entries on my credit report (i have an excellent score 755+ with absolutely no bad entries and no late or partial payments ever) or should I dispute the collection since it wasn't a authorized charge? If you think I should pay this because its a small amount would that singal collection agency as easy target for future illegal collections? and If I pay this how should I pay them and make 100% sure that they will close my file after my payment.

There is no way to answer this question as I cannot put myself in your shoes. However, if you drag this out, it will impact your credit score because they will start reporting.
