Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

credit question

If I was only an authorized user on my ex-husbands credit account. Do I have the right to have it removed from my credit history. He did not pay his debts after the divorce and the accounts are showing on my credit report as open balances. I would like to have them removed. Thank you for your help.

Re: credit question

These accounts are showing on your credit report because the creditor is reporting them under your name and SSAN. So, you have to do two things: First notify the reporting agency that they are not your debts. They are then only required to note that fact but they may continue to report them. Second, notify the creditor in writing that they are making incorrect reports. Take good note on everything that you do to try to correct the problem. Check your credit report again after giving them at least a full calendar month to make the change. If the problem has not been corrected, you can take legal action against the creditor. Then, give me a call.
