Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

My husband had a leased car in his name only and recently died with 6 payments left. He told me he signed a document stating that if he died, they would take the car back with no charge to me. i called the finance company explaining he is now dead and they say there is no such document and are demanding a copy of his death cert & will. I am executor of his estate and they are demanding money from me. Since I am not on the lease, do I have to pay them? Do I have to pay off the remaining payments or should I just tell them to repo the car?

I am sorry for your loss. As a lease is a contact, and you can contract for almost anything, I can't answer your question w/o seeing the lease agreement, so go to an attorney to have it reviewed. There are laws that apply to leases, but the lease must be reviewed.
