Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Personal Check Legalities

Someone wrote a check out to my name in the amount of $640. The check did not clear. Does the signing of that check constitute a legal obligation to pay that amount of money? i.e. if I had to go to small claims court to get that money would I win?

Re: Personal Check Legalities

Did the check bounce or was it a stop payment?

If the check bounced, you have a good small claim case & you can also file a criminal complaint with your local police department.
