What Happens in Small Claims Court

I am suing an ex-boyfriend for a verbal and written agreement that if i took out a loan in my name he would pay and take total responsibility. Now the court date is a week away. If he does not show up to court what happens to my case? And if i win my case how do i get paid? the amount is for $2000.

Re: What Happens in Small Claims Court

If he does not show up to court, the court could enter a default judgment, or perhaps postpone the case.

If a default is entered, the judge may still want you to present evidence of your damages.

If you prove your case, and a judgment is entered, then you have to try to collect on the judgment.

This can be a difficult process if you do not know where your boyfriend is, or the location of any of his assets.
