Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

There was a verizon account open in my name from the time I was 12 to 16. When I was 16 the account closed with a debt of almost $2000, and has been plaguing my credit scores ever since. I have disputed it several times with the current collection agency and on my credit report under 2 bureaus it says "dispute resolved by grantor", but the account still shows up as derogatory. What does that mean and how can I get rid of this debt? I have been trying for 5 years. From what I understand I shouldn't be held responsible for debt when I was under 18. And clearly a cellphone account wasn't mine at 12 yrs old.

If you are a victim of identity theft, then simply disputing the item with the bureaus may not be sufficient. I would recommend following the guidelines set by the FTC which suggest filing a police report as well as an identity theft affidavit. These documents would be sent to the creditor, collector, and the credit bureaus. This process should set you on the right path towards resolution.
