Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

2C 29 3A(7) False I... IO

I was in a car accident in NJ, (I wasn't driving) but I lied when saying who was driving to try to help out the person who was a little bit drunk, I said the somebody else in the car was driving. then I was asked for an ID, however, I provided the cop a false ID (fake Alien Resident Card) and reassure him that it was real. Hence, I was issued a ticket in violation of charge 2C 29 3A(7).

I'd been summoned to appear in court

.

My questions are what are the consequences that I could face?,

Is it just a misdemeanor, and offense? a fine? federal crime?, and if so how much would be the ticket?

What should say in court in my defense?

And most important is this charge number referring to the fake ID or hindering the other person apprehension by giving the cops fake information?

I'll appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, there are a number of things going on here. First, you have to retain counsel to deal with these charges. Providing false id is a very fact specific charge and sometimes the facts don't meet the statute. Second, you need to talk to an attorney right away about your options following the accident. Your rights to recovery will not be harmed by these criminal charges, since you weren't driving. Give our offices a call, and you can call my direct line at 267.639.3105, or e-mail me at [email protected].
