Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Background check

I plead guilty to B/E & Larceny in 1977. 1 yr probation. It seems most companies that do BG checks in NJ only go back to 1984. Is this true?

Re: Background check

I never heard that at all. Your information should be in Promis/Gavel and a lot of companies hire other companies that use that to check you out. I see them there all day.

I suggest you get an expungement.

Re: Background check

I have no idea what companies do, but your record is there to be found and when a record check is done properly everything in your record should come up.

If that conviction is your only conviction it can be expenged within four months, assuming the conviction was in New Jersey.

Call me if you like.

Background check

No surveys exist to determine how far back in time any particular company searches for background information. The information, however, remains available forever, unless it is expunged. Even after it is expunged, the information is sometimes.

Expungement information is available at http://www.njexpungements.com. See, especially, the FAQ page at that site.
