Hi I am being charged with harassment, first court appearance is soon. Should I have legal representation at that appearance if I have no previous crimes arrest or record?

Yes. At the first appearance your Attorney will be able to speak with the prosecutor and find out more about the case. Counsel will also make sure that you don't say anything that you should not. Harassment is a petty disorderly persons offense punishable under the authority of N.J.S.A. 2c:33-4. Under certain circumstances, harassment may be charged as a fourth degree offense. The maximum jail sentence for a petty disorderly persons offense is 30 days. The maximum jail sentence for a fourth degree offense is 18 months. If convicted of harassment in NJ, it will appear on your criminal record. You can check out our firm at www.64njlaw.com or call 732 64-NJLAW.

You should never be unrepresented in a court hearing.

Although it may not be as serious as some offenses any conviction can come back to haunt you.
