Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

expungments vs pardons

I was told I could not recieve an expungment in New Jersey because of my crime, (dist.cds).What I was wondering is there anything I could do? I was arrested 1 day after my 18th birthday almost 20years ago. Since then I went on and I'm a manager at my job, but if I want anything else in life I really need this mistake taken off my record. I wasn't even caught selling drugs I just had a number of mesc. tabs that they got me for selling. And lastly I looked into a pardon or I should say I tring to look into a pardon.....just want to know is it worth anything to do this?

expungments vs pardons

Expungement may be a possibility after all. What cannot be expunged is possession with intent to sell. But there is no law in New Jersey that specifies possession with intent to sell. The law that comes closest is possession with intent to distribute. Thus persons convicted of possession with intent to distribute have been able to expunge their records.

It may not be easy, and it may be costly. It may not even succeed ultimately. But what I would say at this point is that there is hope.
