Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I was issued a ticket in February of 09 for what was for illegal lane shift if I remember. I did not pay the ticket then and I was just recently kicked out of my parents house on thanksgiving in 08 before i got the ticket At the time i was homeless, jobless, and actually had to junk the car because it had no insurance and the registration was suspended due to no insurance. They do that in PA. I know the ticket was initially around 160-180.00 at the time. I had no one to borrow money from and was sleeping on the streets. I just couldn't seem to put myself in a shelter at that time as I have done it once before and couldn't stand it. In the past 4 years i have been homeless for about 3/4 of it. Just barely getting back on my feet now and being able to put a roof over my head. I want to take care of this matter soon, as i am currently putting my life back together slowly and getting back onto my feet. But i have this bench warrant out, I'm assuming for either not paying, or showing up to court, if there was a court date i do not know. Like i said i was kicked out of my parents house which is where all my mail has been going for the past year and a half. Anyone have any advice on how to go about with this matter. I'm not trying to go to jail and serve time etc. I want to take care of this is a good fast fashion, where I'm not hauled away in cuffs. Any help is greatly appreciated. Especially if there is bail to post, how much would it accumulate to over that time period. It is a ticket from new jersey. And if it helps any i know this sounds stupid it was my first ticket ever, and i have no priors or anything and never ever been in trouble with the law

Without a full investigation, I cannot tell you for certain what is going on with your case, but the standard practice in NJ municipal courts is that if you do not answer a ticket, they issue a bench warrant for your arrest and suspend your driver's license. I recommend that you contact the court in the town in which you got the ticket. Find out what the status is. With that information, I also suggest you talk to a lawyer. If you wish to discuss the matter further with my office, you are welcome to call 877\688\3879.

Sometimes you will find judges and courts surprisingly understanding,,,,,,Talk to the Court Clerk in the town where it happened and explain your circumstance
