how long do fingerprints stay on file

i had fingerprints taken over 16 years for a non crininal charge and im applying for a job that requires fingerprints will my old ones show up i dont want to be embarrased if they come back then everyone will know about it i dont know if i should quit now

I am a little uncertain as to your concern. An old conviction for a petty offense is not going to cause a problem unless it is for theft or shoplifting or public lewdness.

If you have had no other offenses for the past 16 years you can petition the Court to expunge it.

I don't see how your fingerprints would show up since if anything is going to show up, it will be the charge itself. I doubt they would do an AFIS search and not a criminal record check. If it is really bothering you, get an expungement. My office can handle that for you.
