Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I was walking toward the train station and the railroad gate came down behind me and the train pulled into the station. It stopped and I crossed the track (underneath the train car, I was too far from either end of the train to walk around) and got on the train. I got a ticket for defiant trespass 2C:18-3b. Can I fight this charge? If I lose what are the likely penalities? Will I have a criminal record?
