Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

My wife was ordered to pay restitution on an engagement ring that was sold over a year ago. The judge told the plaintiff to produce an appraisal for the ring, and they came back to court with a certified written appraisal dated 9/28/2010 in the amount of $10,250. We want to dispute this because there is no way for them to get a written appraisal without showing the jeweler the ring and having him examine it. Is there anything we can do at this point - we need help

I'm not sure that I fully follow you. Is it accurate that your wife was charged with theft of the ring and that she is the one who was responsible for selling it. If so, how much was the ring sold for, was this brought to the attention of the Court. It is difficult to imagine how someone would apprais the ring without examining it, but is your wife the reason that the ring is unavailable. Did your wife plead guilty to the charge of theft? There are some open questions that need to be answered. Do u have someone who can offer an alternate appraisal of a ring that is no longer available? I need more info, please feel free to call (201)-894-9498
