Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

Driving while suspended

I lost my license in May for a DWI, this is my first time of getting anything, I never had a ticket in my life. I was suppose to get my license back in Nov of this year, but I drove to work one day and was on my way home and got stopped. I have to go to court and as far as I know, I will have to pay a $500 fine and probably lose my license for another 6 months. Is that correct and is there anything I can do?

The only thing you can do is fight it. Your defenses are rather limited though. I would need to know why you were stopped.

Yes, stop driving. You were told what the penalties were, and for driving while suspended, I believe you lose your license for 12, not 6 months.

I know it is hard to get around, and I think the DUI law in NJ is unconstitutional (you are guilty until proven guilty), but until someone with a LOT of $$$ challenges it, there is nothing you can do but comply.

Unfortunately, the minimum period of license revocation for driving while suspended for dwi is a year
