Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

Giving Alcohol to Minors

My son (21 yrs old) was caught drinking with a 17 y o and a 20 y o and admitted he bought the six pack of beer. What will be the consequences of his poor decision and choice? He has never been in legal trouble.

Re: Giving Alcohol to Minors

Under New Jersey Statute 2C:33-17 "Anyone who purposely makes available an alcoholic beverage to a person under the legal age for consuming alcoholic beverages is a disorderly person". What this means is that if your son is convicted of this charge he faces maximum penalties of six months in the county jail, one thousand dollars in fines, and several hundred dollars in mandatory state penalties on top of any fine. He would also have a criminal record which could not be expunged until after five years from the date of conviction. I would recommend that he retain a lawyer because alcohol abuse cases are taken very seriously in the municipal courts of New Jersey. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout New Jersey in the past. Please contact me to discuss this case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-
