Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I just gave birth to my first child on Feb 9. I have been with the father for 11 years and he left on March 16 explaining that he was miserable in the relationship with me. The fact is we got back togeher in January of 2011 and I was pregnant by April. He lived off of me, paying no rent and recieving public assistance. He was talking the talk however, and made me believe he would leave his life of drug use and criminal behavior. He fell off several times during the pregnancy but I lived alone and am on disability due to a severe car accident's complications and was suffering from spine displacement and sciatic nerve pain during the pregnancy. A lot of issues have taken place since he abandoned me and the baby including a TRO that I eventually dropped due to anxiety and the belief that he could gain access to the baby without me there. I am so confused. THe baby is only 12 weeks old. I recieved a call from him last night threathening to take the baby. He is on probabtion and has a record a mile long. He has a drinking problem and was ordered to go to AA meetings which he only attended sporatically and sometimes not at all. I want full custody but don't know what I should tell them in regards to why he should only be able to see the child with me there. Will he be able to take the baby without me and do his parents (who he is on and off estranged too and who refuse to speak to me) have any rights?

First of all you need to sit down with an attorney and find out all of your rights. you have right to file for a civil restraining order and possibly anew domestic violence restraining order. You should also be filing for full custody and for child support. In addition you should seek supervised visitation. Call my office to set up an appointment so w can discuss your rights.
