Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I live in New Jersey and my question is: is my husband responsible for turning over belongings of mine if I left the home voluntarily? We are separated and going through a divorce now. I felt like I had to leave the home as he was being very disrespectful in his cheating openly. I went back to retrieve some belongings that I had not been able to take initially and he now claims to not have them. I know he's just keeping them from me. Would a court either hold him responsible to return my belongings or provide reasonable compensation for them?
