Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

My husband was charged with theft and forgery. According to paperwork I found he is suppose to pay for restitution in the amount of $17500.00 as well as serve a term of 3 years minimum. I was not aware of his actions and not involved in the crime. Can the victim still sue me in addition to the criminal sentence. Also I eventually am going to file for divorce from my husband but do not have the money right now to do so. Is there anything I can do to protect myself from being sued for any actions that he was involved with that I was not aware of.
