Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey

L1 Petition approved - how to get visa stamped within United States

My L1 petition has been approved. I am in United States as a student on F1 visa. I want to know if a visa is required for my L1. If so, how do I do it without leaving United States.

Thanks

Rahul

I have to see your approval notice. If you requested a change of status you don’t have to do anything until you leave the US. If you

didn’t request change of status you have to do it now or leave the US and get an L-1 visa at an American Consulate somewhere.

Please let me or my colleague, Allen Kaye, know if we can be of further assistance.

Re: L1 Petition approved - how to get visa stamped within United States

If you are in the U.S. lawfully and "in status," you may qualify for a change of status (in your case from F to L). This operation can generally take place without you leaving the U.S. and would entitle you to a work permit and other benefits of the L status. However, if you are planning to travel at some point, you may still need to apply at an overseas U.S. consulate for the L visa stamp to get back to the country.

If you need a consultation on your specific facts and circumstances, you may contact our office by email or phone.
