Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey

I am the author of a book and I found it posted on a book rental web site. The site does not have permission to have the book on the site nor do they have permission to rent it out. I would like to know if this is a violation of my copyriight. And is there anything I can do about it.

That depends on exactly what is going on. If by "on the site" you mean that an electronic copy is being offered, then your copyright is probably being violated and you can stop that. However, if you are speaking about an offer to rent a physical copy of a book that has been printed and published, that does not infringe your copyright. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
