age discrimination

is it discrimination when an 80 year old practicing physician is told on a wednsday by the owner that he thinks that he is too old and it is time for him to retire and his last day is on friday, 2 days away. never any problems prior to this. 80 year old does inspections of hospital intern programs for the states, fereral aviation physicals, etc.
