Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Disability & severance package

I had 1 wk to go before being let go, my job moved to another state and I became ill (cancer) and was placed on disability. It has been a year and I am now being let go. I was told I am not no longer able to get severance package, since I was on disability. I worked with the company for 35 years. What can I do?

Re: Disability & severance package

The first step is to find out what your company's severance policy is. Once you have obtained the policy, then the best thing to do is to bring it to an employment attorney to see if the company was correct in its determination to exclude you. I would suggest that you contact an attorney who is affiliated with the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) for a referral for an employment attorney. You can get a list of attorneys from the NJ chapter of NELA here: http://www.nelanj.org/
