Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

The house that I'm living in is zoned for one/two family. The house has 3 dwelling units. I live in the basement.

The zoning department has told me that renting the basement is illegal as it's zoned for one/two family and will be coming over for an inspection.

I'm planning to vacate in another few weeks. I know that the landlord is not entitled to collect rent after the building has been cited for illegal rental. However, in my case, the zoning officer hasn't come for inspection yet. So, do I have to pay the rent for the next month?

I will be here in this building may be for 2 weeks next month and planning to move later on. The landlord still has 1/2 month's rent as security deposit.

there is a lot more than that...if you are in an illegal apartment, the landlord OWES MONEY TO YOU! six month's rent! I have handled this kind of case, and I can help you.

Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and let's get moving on this for you. No charge for the telephone call and no charge for the first office visit.
