Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Landlord/Tenant

I had to move from a apt quickly after 4 years - broke the lease - My landlord mailed me a bill for repairs which I received 6/6. It charged rent even with a new tenant in place since April and kept all of my security. Is this legal?? lease would have been up Aug 07, it was broken Jan 31, 07 by letter and moved out end of Feb 07 - new tenant in April 1rst (which they didnt know I knew, I went back to get my mail, is how I knew a tenant had moved in) Ques is can I dispute the holding of security for damages which I dispute?? thank you

Re: Landlord/Tenant

You are not responsible for rent owed under lease where landlord has mitigated loss by renting to another tenant, unless the new rental is for less and this reasonble for landlord.
