Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I live in nj. My husband and I rent a home and in November we contacted our landlord about things that needed to be fixed in the house after no response we deducted expenses from rent they are now bullying us to leave or they will evict what can we do??

Assuming you properly notified your landlord and gave him a reasonable opportunity to repair, the landlord is stuck. New Jersey has a Warranty of Habitability implied in each rental agreement. If we are talking about a major subsystem or health issue, after notice under the lease and a reasonable opportunity to repair you can repair and deduct from the rent.
