Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

security apt deposit

I have lived here for 2 and 1/2 years now. I paid one and 1/2 months rent for security. Now I am moving and my landlord informs me that he did not put my security in a security account at the bank. How do I know what interest is due? what rights do I have?

Re: security apt deposit

The answer depends on how large the building is. If the building is owner occupied and has no more than two units other than the landlord's unit then the landlord is not required to place the security deposit in an interest bearing account unless specifically asked by you.

If your building doesn't fit this exception then give me a call
