HIPAA's effects on lawyers

How does HIPAA affect a defense lawyers when they are seeking medical records of a plaintiff in a civil case? Does the HIPAA form make subpoenaes obsolete?

No, once you are in litigation it is dicoverable. However, not everything dicoverable is admissable at trial.
