is it illegal for a medical doctor (family doctor) to go out with a current patient?

While it is not technically illegal, it may violate ethical guidelines of specialty societies.

(i.e. it could have adverse professional consequences, including malpractice exposure.)

In general, the advice given to doctors is not to date a current patient.
