Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey

I was beaten and robbed in 2011 while out of town and suffered a broken ankle and a concussion. Police arrived and witnesses and my self gave statements about the indecent. I returned home and about a month or so later i was sent a letter to appear in court with aggravated assault with a weapon charges. There was a mix up in the department and I was charged as the offender. I was on bed rest and called to let them know that I could not appear. they put a warrant out for me even tho the superior court prosecutor had sent me a letter stating that they know I was innocent. the case had be dropped back down to municipal court for some reason and when I called the detective on the case he told me to show up to court and he will get the warrant dropped off me but I still had to be "booked". I did and after several court appearances the charges where dropped off of me. im looking for some sort of compensation for what happen to me. do i have a lawsuit?

You may have several causes of action based not only on the conduct of the police but also arising out of the underlying incident. Potential causes of action include a claim for malicious prosecution and false arrest. Additionally, you may have claims that can be made against the persons who assaulted you. Where and when the incident occurred are important factors to be considered as different states have different time frames/limitations periods during which a claim must be presented.
